[ open to anyone who'd like to reply, though no more than one, please. ] It was strange, being in a different place than her lovely home back in England. There were so many different people out and about, and so many things to look at. Maxielle had taken cover in the courtyard, sheltering underneath an awning bedecked with grimacing gargoyles. Hardly frightened by the creatures, she merely found them to be a trifle amusing, and had already spend ten minutes looking at them. Was it their sightless eyes, or the wings that other people found disconcerting, she knew not. Maybe someday Max might ask someone. But that someone should probably be a friend- because if she asked a random passerby, they'd think she was crazy. Cocking her head to one side, she contemplated the thought. Maybe she was crazy, it would explain a lot. Alighting on that possibility, she stood up with a note of derision. Where to next?
The shoes that she had absent simplemindedly slid on earlier in the day were driving her crazy as she walked down the path that lead to the gardens. There were sneakers, simple, but too big. Contemplating removing them and going barefoot, the girl decided against it. With her luck, she would step on a rock, nail, or some other sharp protruding object. The groundskeeper had much work in front of him for this year, she could see that. After a day, the grass already looked like it needed a trim, and the flowers that lined the walkway looked as if they were dehydrated. After walking a decent distance from the courtyard, Max settled herself into a sitting position on the grassy lawn. There was less people straying off the path around here, and she was less likely to be bothered by the silly antics of first year students.
She wasn't in uniform on this particular day, as there was no classes. Thankful for that small favor from the gods, she was able to stretch out her legs without worrying about her robe flapping about like a distressed animal. Her simple jeans and white t shirt combination didn't allow for much fashion, but Max could care less. She more or less liked comfort over the so-called 'alluring' low cut shirts and tight, short miniskirts that other girls her age seemed to be wearing. Was it to try to get a guy? Pathetic really, that one had to be so desperate as to almost bare their entire chest in order to attract attention from the opposite gender.

He was so glad that there were no classes today. He had worn a blue guy T, and some jeans, plus a blazer like jacket thing that was black. His hazel eyes were bright and happy. Finally they let us have a day off! He was going crazy, with all that work. So much work...Which reminded him why he was walking over here in the first place. To study. His heavy bookbag that was slung off his shoulder was a harsh reminder of that. He sighed deeply and looked at his bag. It held a potions book, a ancient runes book...He had only brought two books, becasue these were the only subjects in which he hadn't finished the homework on. They were both not very hard but contained alot of attention and work.
Jonathan put the strap of the bag onto his shoulder more securely since it was slipping off some. He readjusted his blazer collar and walked on. He walked fast, like he was late for somewhere. he had no place to go really. His dark and short brown hair was messy today. He remembered this and his hand flew up and smoothed his hair back. A bit better. He didn't have to worry much about his hair like girls did. He chuckled softly to himself. They were quite fussy with there hair. He gazed around cautiously wondering if anyone was about. He saw a few people sitting and chatting together. His house was Gryffindor, he was proud of that, sure, of course he was. Gryffindor, that was big, his parents couldn't be more happy since the day he got accepted into Hogwarts. This was now his sixth year and his parents pride hasn't faltered yet.
John's eyes then rested on a girl sitting in the grass, all by her lonesome. Jonathan couldn't tell which house she was from, but he could tell she was a sixth year. John decided to go say hi. She didn't look like she needed copany but she looked kinda lonley. Who wants to be lonley? So he walked to her her, and still standing, he through a greeting. "Hey, what are you doing all alone out here?" His voice rang with politeness in his greeting. He hoped he didn't sound offensive in any way. He stood in front of her, while she sat. He didn't want to be rude and invite himself to sit. Maybe she could help him with his stupid Ancient Runes homework, that he didn't get. Maybe she wasn't even in Ancient Runes, maybe Potions though. He wasn't having troubles with Potions though.

"Hey, what are you doing all alone out here?" Max certainly hadn't expected to see anyone around, nor for anyone to approach her. Instead of shying away from the voice, and saying something prickly and rude to make the boy go away, Max merely looked at him, giving him her famous 'once over.' He was fairly cute with dark hair and a nice smile. The type that was nonthreatening, and nonjudgmental. She liked spending time with those types, it was comforting to know that you weren't secretly being judged by your companion. With all her Slytherin friends, you never knew if they hated you- or your outfit- until they decided to attack you. But she was strong enough to last though whatever this year, and besides, being a Slytherin was better for her. Her parents were happy, and she was decently happy. Though Max couldn't help but wonder how her life might have been if she'd been sorted into a different house, like Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff. Even with these thoughts all roiling around in her pretty little head, she still managed a stiff smile. "Just, um, enjoying the fresh air." She made a sweeping gesture with her left hand in the general direction of the lake. "The grounds are so nice this time of year, aren't they?" Yes, she was capable of being perfectly friendly.
"Sit down, if you'd like. I would love the company." Setting aside her meanness for the moment, Max patted a bit of grass on the ground next to her. Who cared if he was a hufflepuff, who cared even if he turned out to be a gryffindor. For some reason, she felt compelled to be completely polite. Normally, however, she'd be sniping away with little comments. Each one mean enough to send someone running away. With the boy standing like that, Max glanced up and readjusted the neckline of her cotton shirt neckline. Wouldn't it be lovely if he had just come over on a dare from one of his silly friends to look down her top. Better safe than sorry, she supposed. Besides, it was just her nature to think badly of people until she could formulate a different opinion. She was just the type to be wary of others. Magical folk, muggles, people in general were unpredictable. Well, Max tried her best to be somewhat predictable, spontaneous never seemed to work in her favor. And what any predictable person would do at a time like this was to introduce herself. And so she did, in her child-like voice. Mother always told her that she sounded about three years younger than she was, but then again, Mother said that she acted about six years younger than she was. "I'm Max, by the way."

Jonathan grinned when he got a friendly reply. Thank goodness. He didn't like the way some people carried there attitudes. Jeesh, does it hurt to be nice once in a while? If he had gotten a nasty reply he would have gave her one back and left the place with a smug look on his face. Who likes to be shown up? He didn't, thats for sure. But once he got the reply he'd been waiting for, he nodded sagley in reply, to her question. He looked to where her arm swpet accross, trailingly. Indeed the grounds were quite nice, the lake rippling from a gentle breeze, and so the few trees we had on the grounds, were rippling nicley with a bit of sun sprinkling them with beauty. Too right this girl was. She was pretty and smart. John laughed mentally. That was just a joke.
Then, a bit surpirsed at the next thing she said. She would love company and she wanted for Jonathan to sit down. John shrugged and smiled, less goofily this time. "Sure, I wouldn't mind some company either, thanks." He sat down gingerly in front of the girl. He set aside his book bag and looked at it for a moment. Oh, yes he had come out here to work...Oh well, there was only about an hour of it left anyhow. Then she spoke again and his head whipped back to her. He sat straight backed, with a good posture. Slightly relaxed, and carefree. John caught her name in what she said next. Max, eh? Pretty name. John smiled and returned the favour. "My name is Jonathan. Or John for short." He paused and his eyes flickered toward his book bag.
"Hey, do you take Ancient Runes class?" He looked at her and his eyes were curious. For once he didn't care about how he looked, or he wasn't shy or trying to be manly, and what not. He seemed to think, internally that he looked fine right now, and he was coming off as a perfectly nice and friendly stranger. That was odd. This girl was pretty with long dark hair and a winning smile, but John didn't seem bothered with trying to make himself better than he is...Huh, wierd. ohn thought that he might've seen her in Ancient Runes class with him but he only really paid attention to the teacher. After all, you really have to pay attention to know whats going on in that class.

"My name is Jonathan. Or John for short." Inclining her head a few inches, Max smiled up at the boy. "Uhm, nice to meet you, John." Instead of being vaguely annoyed at how forward she was being, Max felt rather at peace. Though it would hardly help her reputation if she was known as nice. Nice meant polite and kind to everyone, being polite and kind to those undesirables. The nice side of her wrestled with her parent's upbringing, and ended up with a compromise. She'd be nice, but not too too nice. And if he turned out to be a blood traitor or mudblood, she'd do what her parents would want to her do. It was hard doing things the right way while staying a decent person. All her Slytherin friends didn't seem to have a problem with pissing off whomever.
Tilting her head to the side, she listened to the boy's question. "Hey, do you take Ancient Runes class?" No, she didn't. That class was far too hard. Not that she wasn't intelligent, but she preferred to spend her time on other things -not deciphering ancient scrolls and texts written in runes. "No.. I heard that class was wicked hard though." Eying the boy again, she asked him, "are you taking that class this year?" Mother and Father had urged her to get more involved with the scholastic side of Hogwarts, rather than the social side. She had dutifully taken a few classes that she would have passed on, such as Herbology, etc. Herbology was one scary class, all those creepy crawly plants. Preferring the stationary, non vicious muggle plants, Max didn't mind muggle gardening. Though her parents didn't allow activities like that, she figured what they didn't know wouldn't hurt them.
occ( *short* sorry. D: )

Jonathan couldn't help but nurse a small awkward nag at the pit of his stomach. He swallowed hard, and choked that feeling back some more. It just wouldn't go away. Okay, so this was a bit awkward, and John knew it. He turned that awkwardness into words he could say to make it go away. So, she thought Ancient Runes was hard...It's not like it's easy but it isn't totally diffacult. Once you get the hang of it, all the knowledge of the runes, comes naturally. Maybe that was just him. "Oh yeah, I'm taking that class this year. It's not really that diffacult. Yet, it's different for different people." John shrugged and glanced sidelong at his bookbag. It just sat there as a prop unused. He then kept his attention back to Max.
"So, how's Hogwarts been treatin' yeh?" He asked in a friendly way, and smiled a smile that hinged flirtatiously on his jaw. He wasn't hitting on Max. Every guy takes that smile out, whether they want to or not. Call it there second nature. It's not something you can stop.Especially when the girl in question is pretty. Jonathan maybe wasn't even aware he had pulled out his flirty smile. He couldv'e just thought it was a normal smile. But low and behold there it was. Planted so symmetrically on his face. Kinda crooked, kinda dashing, kinda alluring, kinda...Very guy-like.
John loved Hogwarts himself. He didnt find the work too hard, and he always got his homework finished on time. So the work part, was never a big problem. Plus he had tons of friends, and his popularity was great. He was in Gryffindor so that made him seem...Well I don't know what it made him seem. Some people just didn't approve of that house. Others loved it. Jonathan didn't care. The teachers here adored him, and he had a carefree attitude on. He was also a pureblood. He didn't exactly hate the mudbloods or the muggles, but he didn't really like them either. He respected all sides, but was grateful that he was on the right one. The pure blood one, that is. John kept his attention glued to Max. He wondered which house she was in.
