Classes:
Divination, Transfiguration, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Potions, Herbology.Appearance:
Parvati has a fast metabolism to thank for her somewhat slim figure, since she doesn't care about dieting, nor does she believe in physically exerting herself to lose weight. The only form of exercise that she really does is when she dances in ballet class. When she gets extremely stressed, Parvati will either not eat, or do some stress-eating, thus causing her to either lose or gain weight. She tends to stay in the general area of 110 pounds though.Personality:
She cares about her appearance, which may come off as being vain to some people, and has a reputation for being notoriously girly. She enjoys looking nice and styling her hair and putting on makeup, although she doesn’t overdo it. Parvati can get somewhat insecure about her looks, and often feels self-conscious about certain aspects of her appearance. For example, even though the two girls are twins, Parvati sometimes feels like the “ugly twin” around Padma, possibly due to the fact her sister is always praised about her grades, which actually has nothing to do with appearance at all. It’s just the attention that Padma will get from her accomplishments.
Many of the boys at Hogwarts have deemed her and her sister as being rather pretty, with their natural tan and long dark hair. Parvati has big brown eyes, which she accentuates with the use of makeup. She has a petite frame, and is a bit shorter than the average girl at Hogwarts. This doesn’t bother her so much anymore, but in her younger years, she hated always being the shortest. She never did like the size of her nose either, and was always a bit disappointed that Padma had the cuter, smaller one. She has stopped caring about it, despite that it took watching a muggle programme called “Extreme Makeover” for her to get over it. She reckons that her nose suits her now, and she’ll make the best of it.
Despite her tan, Parvati still enjoys laying out and tanning during the summer. She finds it to be quite therapeutic. Sounds silly, but don't knock it til you've tried it. Her sister absolutely hates that habit of hers, and has warned Parvati countless times of the dangers of tanning when she doesn’t need it. Padma reckons she’ll get skin cancer from it. Parvati figures that she’d rather die with an even tan than live out the rest of her life being sallow. Or maybe that’s just her vain side talking…
Generally a nice person, Parvati is outgoing and doesn't really have trouble making friends, or at least, friendly aquaintances. She does have her bitchy tendencies, and when those happen, watch out… Hell hath no fury like Parvati scorned; especially a scorned Parvati who may well be motivated to kick some cracks in a glass window with a sharp stiletto heel. She can be quite sarcastic and her sister considers her to have an odd sense of humour.History:
Parvati is a good and loyal friend, but if someone does her wrong, then they might as well be dead to her. She doesn’t like to think of herself as the type to hold grudges, but when someone wrongs her, those things tend to stick out in her memory. “Forgive and forget” was something she was never really good at, more specifically, the “forget” aspect.
She absolutely adores fashion and muggle pop culture, which most Slytherins would just gag about. Parvati has a few television shows, particularly “Hollyoaks,” “EastEnders,” “What not to Wear” (Trinny and Susanna are such good Samaritans, helping out the fashionably-challenged…), and “Footballers Wives,” that she religiously keeps up with when not in school, and loves music of both the muggle and wizarding worlds. Padma had deemed the television shows that Parvati obsessed over as being trashy and pointless, but the twins don’t agree on a lot of things since they have completely different interests.
Parvati is extremely outspoken and has no problem telling someone what’s what. She seems to have an opinion on almost every subject there is, which has landed her in detention quite a few times, especially under the wrath of Umbridge. She sometimes knows when to back down, but not quite, which is one of the many flaws her personality entails. Padma actually stated that Parvati’s mouth is going to get her in trouble someday and that she “wouldn’t be there to save her if it did,” to which Parvati replied, “Oh, how tragic. Please, Padma…I can take care of myself.” She can be really spontaneous, and when in some sort of trouble, she makes it a point to use her “Gryffindor Bravery” to the fullest…or at least act like a badass who knows what she’s doing…
Parvati is the younger Patil twin, with Padma, also known as “The Patil Child Prodigy,” being five minutes older than her. Sometimes, she’d use the fact that Padma was older in order to get away with more things. For example, when Parvati let a bird into the house that ended up breaking her Mum’s vase, she got into trouble and retorted, “Well of course Padma wouldn’t let a sparrow into the house. She’s older! She knows better!” During their years at Hogwarts, Parvati was sort of overshadowed by her sister's accomplishments. (It was sort of a "Marsha, Marsha, Marsha" situation, if you know what I mean...) The two of them usually got along, but Padma was always so absorbed in her schoolwork, that she and Parvati hardly saw each other during the school day. The fact that her sister was in Ravenclaw, as well as loads of Advanced Courses, also added to this. Padma was the more studious of the two, always bringing home exceptional marks in school, while Parvati's marks weren't as stellar.Ten Characteristics:
Still, she developed a knack for Divination, and it became the one class that she was truly passionate about. Parvati developed the reputation of being extremely girly, and became best friends with Lavender Brown. The two were almost inseparable and Parvati loved having a friend who was almost exactly like her. Aside from Lavender, a lot of Parvati's friends consisted of the Gryffindor boys. The girls, she thought, were always so catty and gossipy. Every time Parvati would hang out with them, the girls would always stare Parvati down as if she were trying to take something from them. Lavender always told her that the girls were just jealous. A few of the boys had deemed Parvati and Padma the prettiest girls in their year, and some of the girls may have been jealous of that fact. Parvati, on the other hand, didn't think she was all that great. Sure, she had her good days, but she was just as pretty as anyone else. If anything, she was a bit insecure about her looks, which explained why she obsessed over her hair and makeup so much.
During their Sixth Year at Hogwarts, Parvati and Padma's parents took them out of school after the death of Albus Dumbledore. The girls' parents were always very protective, and didn't want to risk something bad to them. Parvati was upset that she had to leave her friends, but understood why her parents took her out of school, and didn't really put up much of a fight.
Sonia Patil, the girls' mother, was killed in a Death Eater attack during the summer of that same year, about a month after the twins’ birthdays. It was basically a wrong place-wrong time situation, and Sonia just happened to be in the area when the Death Eaters struck. She made it out of the area alive, but had to be taken to St. Mungo’s Hospital. While her mother was in the hospital, Parvati didn't want to leave her side and tried to believe that her Mum would be okay and she would make it out alive. She had always been so close to her Mother and didn't even want to think about what would happen if she were to die. She tried to ignore the healers who were whispering things like "It looks grim..." and "I'm surprised she made it this far."
Parvati was devastated when her Mother died, not leaving the house or even talking to any of her friends for days. The night Sonia died, Parvati became afraid to go into her parents' room, or even touch anything her Mother had put in place. Thinking about that first night without her literally gives Parvati the chills. Padma and Parvati's father allowed the girls to return to school in their Seventh Year, and Parvati actually considered not returning. However, it was what her mother would have wanted. Education was important to her, and Parvati didn't want to disappoint her.
Ultimately, Parvati and Padma returned to Hogwarts and attempted to pick up their lives where they had left off there, but thoughts of her mother obviously didn’t leave Parvati’s mind. She misses her mother, and there isn't a day that goes by where Parvati doesn't think of her.
1. Parvati can be quite vain, which has gained her somewhat of a reputation as the ridiculous “girly-girl” of Gryffindor. People also perceive her as shallow because of her concern over her looks. Parvati has been working on this, honestly. She tries not to care so much, telling herself it’s only school and no one really pays attention to anything, but it’s easier said than done.
The reason behind her vanity is her insecurity and a slight fear of being inferior to her sister. She loves her sister, really she does, but her parents would always loved the fact that Padma excelled at everything and made a big deal out of it. It was a little hard for her to accept that there would be certain things she just wouldn’t be good at.
2. She is extremely loyal and caring to her friends and family, especially in light of recent events. Following her mother’s death, she realized that life was a tricky thing and you never knew when it was going to give out. Parvati truly loves her friends and family, and would do just about anything for the lot of them.
3. Parvati is witty and talkative, or anyway, she likes to think of herself as witty. It isn’t hard to strike up a conversation with her.
4. She’s not as shallow as everyone makes her out to be. Contrary to popular belief, she does read, and not only magazines, mind you. She simply doesn’t like required reading, i.e. schoolbooks.
5. Parvati procrastinates, particularly when it comes to Potions assignments. It is not rare to see Parvati pulling all-nighters in order to finish that Potions essay due in mere hours, despite the fact she knew about it over a week in advance.
6. She also trusts people, boys especially, far too easily, which usually results in her getting hurt in the end. Many of her relationships have ended in shambles because she’d refuse to believe that her boyfriend that she really, really fancied happened to be sleeping with another girl who he didn’t fancy so much, but apparently put out easily.
7. Between her and Padma, Parvati is the more emotional of the two. That being said, she tends to really over-dramatize things when she’s upset. She’ll let her emotions get the best of her, which isn’t the best thing for her to do, as she has funny ways of dealing with things.
For example, when she found out that the aforementioned boyfriend was cheating, she lashed out at him and proceeded to ignore all of his phonecalls. He came around to the Patil household, bearing a bouquet of roses and a box of chocolates, practically begging for forgiveness. He hadn’t taken but two steps in the doorway when Parvati grabbed the flowers from his hand and smacked him in the face a few times with the bouquet while screaming at him, only to shove him out the door moments later.
The candy, however, she kept. You can’t really blame her, though. He had bought it from quite an expensive chocolate place, and it tasted great when she and Padma shared the box whilst watching a movie later that night.
8. She has a pretty good fashion sense, if she says so herself. Growing up reading fashion magazines, where one is constantly reading about new and exciting fashions, will do that to a girl. Witch Weekly is her bible (as far as the fashion section goes, anyway. Those tips on boys are absolute bollocks, in her opinion) and she has a slight obsession with her law of retail therapy.
9. It can be said that Parvati does hold grudges, or at least, remembers the negative when it comes to a conflict between herself and someone else. After the Yule Ball in Fourth Year, she didn't speak to Harry Potter for weeks. She was angry that he invited her and then proceeded to ignore her after the first dance. She got over it, obviously, but hasn't forgotten about the incident entirely.
10. Parvati is a nice girl, really, she tries to be. Despite the various flaws in her personality that cause people to see her as bossy, self-obsessed or shallow, she's done some growing up since she's been in school. While she is somewhat less mature than her sister, she isn't the same shallow Parvati that everyone would stereotype her as. But still, maturity can be a bit overrated... Parvati likes to have fun, and that's all there is to it.
